Combining the punishing, groove-driven riffs of Helmet with deeper and darker melodies and rhythms, exploring themes of anger, despair, sexual and physical abuse, violence, BDSM, addiction, and more, this album established Tool as a creative force in heavy metal music and set the stage for its groundbreaking follow-up.
