In Pictures: The She-Ra Season 5 Trailer Just Dropped and we REALLY TRULY CANNOT RIGHT NOW

I was gonna do a whole "intro paragraph" thing but I just can't y'all, I am WAY TOO EXCITED right now. The trailer for the fifth and final season of Noelle Stevenson's She-Ra and the Princesses of Power on Netflix just dropped and I am EXTREMELY SHOOK by what I've seen. There are so many things going on here so let's take it all in chronological order...

In some ways, Conflicted Catra is as much the star of this trailer as Adora. There are several great shots here teasing a Catra redemption arc hardcore, which is not very surprising considering the way Catra has been treated throughout the series as very much a protagonist (child soldier abused and manipulated into leading the evil Horde [remind you of anyone?])--and especially considering how season 4 left her character arc--but it's still very, extremely squee-worthy. This is not only the best of all these shots but one of many examples of ridiculously excellent cinematography in this trailer...

Look at these f*cking shots, my God. And not only beautiful but thematically rich. Parallel shots of Adora and Glimmer all alone (in a show about being stronger together) after leaving their relationship in pretty dire turmoil at the end of season 4. But the money shot here is Adora facing down the power of She-Ra (BROKEN SWORD IN HAND) with a Portal between them--a Portal like the one that Light Hope used to take Adora from her home to be the new She-Ra, like the one Mara used to move Etheria to Despondos to protect the universe from the Heart of Etheria project which She-Ra was the key to until Adora broke the sword of She-Ra, breaking its control over She-Ra and hopefully foiling the Heart of Etheria project which would turn Etheria into a weapon that could destroy entire worlds. Here she kneels with the broken sword before the Portal, face-to-face with her destiny.

Three more amazing shots, though I wish I knew how to make GIFs to show the amazing shot of Horde Prime's projection materializing. We also have an awesome team shot featuring newly our newly-redeemed trio of Entrapta, Scorpia, and Shadow Weaver (not sure she's exactly "redeemed" or if she ultimately will be but we shall see...) PLUS MER-BY-GOD-MISTA!!!

Another beautiful shot of Conflicted Catra that ALSO MIGHT BE TEASING A TEAM-UP WITH GLIMMER OH MY GOD YOU GUYSSS!!!

This shot of present day Catra computer-glitching to season 1 Catra with the voiceover "Hello...Adora..." (instead of the customary "Hey, Adora" we've heard countless times) is already breaking the goddamn Internet, especially among all the Catradora shippers--and really, if you watch this show and don't ship Catradora just...why--and by the way can we talk about the NEW EPIC VERSION OF THE THEME SONG SUNG BY CATRA VOICE ACTOR AJ MICHALKA?! Another very thinly veiled nod toward Catra's seemingly-inevitable redemption arc GOD I'M SO EXCITED BUT OH IT GETS BETTER...

Because we're also getting SCORPIA PRINCESS POWERSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

But guys...

GUYS...

CATRADORA STANS RISE UP!!!!!
THIS IS TOO MUCH
SURELY IT CAN'T GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS...

Okay. Okay. Okay. I know the whole Internet is dying over Catradora right now and deservedly so but can someone please tell me why more people are not talking about ADORA LITERALLY BREAKING THE SWORD SHE INHERITED FROM PAST SHE-RAs AND THEN F@#$%&! SUMMONING A NEW SWORD THAT IS HERS AND HERS ALONE USING THE POWER THAT LIVES INSIDE HER AND IS ALSO HERS AND HERS ALONE?!?!?! When I saw this, I literally screamed  involuntarily so loud that my mom asked if I was okay. The answer is yes but no and also I don't know. Every time I watch this or even think about it I start to ugly cry.

I don't know if this sweeping finale can possibly live up to the greatness of the first four seasons or this trailer. But I have a whole lot of faith in Noelle Stevenson and co. based on the body of work up until this point. In a world of cynical narratives designed to placate angry men, this show is for all of us. The idea that a show that has been this good up until this point--a show that has intentionally chosen this season to finish the beautiful story it has told--would not be up to the task of sticking the landing is almost inconceivable. I'll be sad to see it go--we all will--but I can't wait to see how it ends.

FOR THE HONOR OF GRAYSKULL...
